Back up snapshot and restore a VPS

Create recovery points and distinguish a snapshot from an independent backup.

Before you start

Backup and snapshot availability depends on the VPS provider and plan. Save current work and check storage, retention, and costs shown in the service.

Steps

  1. Open the VPS and look for Backups or Snapshots in its available controls.
  2. Create a recovery point with a recognizable label where offered. Wait for the operation to finish.
  3. Confirm that the completed item is listed and record what application state it represents.
  4. Before restoring or reverting, save newer data elsewhere and read the warning: recovery can replace changes made after the selected point.
  5. Restore the intended recovery point, wait for completion, and validate the operating system, files, and application. Keep independent copies of important data.

Check the result

A completed recovery point exists, and a restoration returns the expected application data.

Troubleshooting

A button can be unavailable for an unsupported provider capability. Snapshots are not a guarantee against provider storage failure; test your independent backup process.
