Rebuild resize and manage VPS disks safely

Use provider-supported maintenance controls while protecting existing data.

Before you start

These actions can interrupt service or destroy data. Verify the provider capability and take an independent backup before proceeding.

Steps

  1. Open the VPS service and inspect the available Rebuild, Resize, Disks, ISO, or Rescue controls.
  2. For a rebuild, select the intended operating system and read the disk replacement warning. Restore needed application data afterward.
  3. For a resize, review the new resources and price. Follow the provider’s required stopped/running state and check whether disk changes are reversible.
  4. For an added or enlarged disk, verify it inside the guest operating system and perform partition/filesystem work only after a backup.
  5. Use ISO or rescue access only when supported and needed. Return to the normal boot configuration when maintenance finishes.

Check the result

The service displays the new configuration and the guest operating system recognizes the intended disk and memory changes.

Troubleshooting

Console capacity and filesystem capacity are different: increasing a virtual disk may require expanding the filesystem. Do not promise shrinking, backups, rescue, or ISO support on every plan.
